Tossed and turned again last night. Was still visualizing the air paddling drills. Woke up early, reached kallang early.
On the pathway along kallang leisure park, there was the sound of a little bell coming towards me from behing. "Had the dog from yesterday gotten a belled collar?" I thought. "He's back for my breakfast again!" I closed the wrapper on the egg mcmuffin and turned around with a frowned expression to receive an odd look from the cyclist who had a bell tied to his bike.
The serene waters of kallang basin were filled with the flopping paddles of the multitude of chinese high school canoeists along shears bridge. That many canoeists in the distance, flopping their little paddles like see-saws; looked like a bunch of beached, suffocating fish. Their coach was sitting on the ledge, giving out corrections as they paddled in and turned back out. Recalling yesterday's disastrous starting capsizes, I wondered when I would be able to balance that well in the canoes. Ack, and jiaolian wants us to train for K1s, which are like... much harder than yesterday's t1s. Don't worry Reu, the balance will come in time, you're a damn fast learner, or you'll keep training damn long until the damn balance is damn well achieved.
The starlums are easy as pie to balance now. But geez... very cramped. Left lower back kept cramping... then legs went numb a few times. It almost became to bad that when I desperately paddled to the beach to do some stretching, I got out and put my legs in the water and couldn't feel anything. Like... when you sit on the toilet bowl and lean forward to read something then both legs cramp. Almost fell down into the knee deep water which would probably have killed me due to my malfunctioning supports. Thank god that's the last time I'll be in that boat... hopefully. Next sat Samantha wants me to try the red boat. Adjustable seat and kicker sounds so good.
Stephen gave me his glasses to safe keep when he was doing an H rescue drill. Was about to return it to him after the drill when his boat bumped into mine and I dropped the glasses into the water and we both watched in horror as they sunk into the brown murky depths. Feel so guilty about that >_< But he's all "nevermind lah", "the colour wearing out already". *nods* good patient character.
Bernard's getting on my nerves nowadays. It's not like he's doing anything... but that aire... It's familiar. Too familiar in fact - the james ego. What the hell... I'm not prejudice to people. Mustn't start now.
Did some air paddling with Jiaolian after washing and keeping the boats. He keeps saying I "have a very good phyisque to be a kayaker". Which I find damn odd. Never had anyone comment my physique positively like that before. It was usually "Wow, you're damn tall." Yesh, extra training is paying off. Felt very odd when he was correcting my stroke and everyone was watching, then went off to shower. There's like some uncomfortability in the air with the team now that I've joined the canoeists. I'm still a dragon, you silly people! ... maybe I'm just imagining things.
Had a very long talk with Jiaolian about canoeing, races, strokes, techniques, physics, forms, posture. I can really click with him, unlike Ben. *sigh* Managed to get pretty far with the stroke today. Until jiaolian went "Whoa... that's very good for a beginner." PH34R MY L33T L34RN|NG SP33D! Felt good to impress him, but he probably doesn't know about the 2 air paddling sessions I had with samantha, and secret training at home...
He was suprised to find out that I was graduating next year. Yes, I'll only have about 1 year to excel in this sport during school. Hopefully, dragonboating and lots of research will help me catch up to the other schools. But he said that if I was keen, I could probably go under him and compete in the opens races. Feels odd to worry about being too old to pick something up when you're only 18. Well... 19 in 3 days.
I can't remember when was the last time I felt such a spur for anything. Well.. actually... I vaguely remember... but can't remember what it was for.
Next year's IVP and nationals, here I come.
