Reading Nat's posts on the forums now. Hmm... I think she was a good choice for cap of the girls indeed.
Took leave from work to go help out at club crawl the past few days.
Day 1:
Saw Caroline again :). I would never have imagined her to be able to organize everything for club crawl in my absence. The Caroline who wanted to skip rehearsals to go for her class chalet, the Caroline who wanted to skip practices because she wanted to go out with her friends. She's now the Caroline who managed to get everything together for club crawl, the Caroline who is doing the thought-out proposals for our concerts. Perhaps being in the exco has changed her somewhat. Good job, Vice Pres.
Went booth hopping to help out Piano ensemble, dragon boat, and canoeing. The piano ensemble booth was fine; the pianists came, helped out, all very helpful. Dragon boat too; fine except that that bugger Jeremy kept calling me traitor and snake for helping out canoeing also. The canoeists like always damn happy to see me. Always smiling and especially Yong qiang who's very brotherly huggy and playful, and Ezra's really playful too.
Sat at the piano ensemble booth every now and then, gave out canoeing pamphlets, and went around stalking potential rowers for dragon boat. It was fun playing stalker. Spotting some guy who has potential, then stalking him around to cut him off at an intersection to direct him to the dragon boat booth. After a while, you can even estimate the general route which the individual will be taking around the booths, which isn't too hard anyway, because they organized the booths to make people walk through them in a zig-zag manner through the isles. Even could tell that this guy would walk down this path, turn at the end, then walk down the path and turn to the exit, which is actually a one way entrance and he will be directed backward by the students union bouncers. I would then intersect him on his way back to me.
Then at 4pm, we found out that that piano ensemble has a performance slot. Why it wasn't on our schedule, we don't know, but anyway, due to the suddenty of the situation, only I went up to perform. In orange dragon boat training singlet. Haiyo... but I set my mind on the performance and dropped all distractions aside. The backstage crew expressed their extreme suprise by saying stuff like "dragon boat performing?" or "I would never expect you to be able to play the piano." -_-. See? never judge a book by its cover ah... Anyway, I blasted my original combined renditions of final fantasy's Laguna battle theme-FF7 battle theme- FF9 battle theme- FF8 battle theme for the whole sports hall. The piano felt abit funny, and the speakers were turned away from me, so I didn't think I sounded too well as I couldn't hear and feel myself too well. But the response after the performance seemed to indicate that it went pretty well. Naresh kept saying I was flexing my muscles more than playing on stage, but I guess playing in the training singlet helped advertise for dragon boat abit.
Day 2: Started out the morning with the piano ensemble performing. Chek yao had mic problems in the beginning, but did ok, Yang xiao's score book kept threatening to fall or close several times so chek yao had to run up and hold it for her, but I feel her concentration was disrupted. Ai yun did ok as well. I played my arrangement of melodies of life, which was carried across pretty well with the insane amount of reverb in the sports hall. Then I think the mic was turned up higher than yesterdays, cause I could hear the smudge of the notes sticking together during the battle themes due to the reverb. The backstage SU crew is very cute. Friendly bunch as I've discovered the day before. They kept whispering "expert's here" when I went up to stage, then they all crowded around at the side of the stage to listen and watch. Must've been amusing to watch them.
Got really tired booth hopping and stalking people around. Soooo drained. But tried to keep perked up. Stephen said it must've been the loud music. In the end, the booths packed up early at about 4 plus and went to eat with stephen and dylon. That dylon ah... dunno whether he's really poor or just acting. No phone at home to call the year1s to come down for training the next day because he's moving house apparantly, and no money to eat. Went to oversee piano ensemble briefing for the beginner class after some reluctance. That's the beauty of the senior batch in piano ensemble. I can trust them to handle the beginners class all by themselves. From arrangement of meeting days, to their methods of teaching. There's very strong leadership qualities being built there. And I'm glad that Yi mei is helping Ai yun out for the beginners class.
But oh boy.... 50+ signed up for the beginners class, maybe 30-40 showed up, and only 1 guy out of the multitude of girls. Luckily dylon was there to talk to him.
Went to the school gym after that and "initiated" stephen in our first training there with the situp master machine. 360 situps in varying intensities. I remember when Tianhong first brought me there and set me up on the machine as well. Its pretty interesting to see how everyone reacts differently to the task at hand, though. I fought on harder and harder when I was on it. When I set up jeremy on it, he stopped occasionally, but rose to the challenge eventually. And stephen attempted to cheat at first, stopping occasionally, but worked extra hard towards the end as well.
Getting lazy to log the workout routine again... I think I'll keep a mental log or something instead.
We went swimming after that. Met a couple of familiar faces. It was just very nostalgic. How I miss the days when Tianhong and I would go swimming then hit the gym everyday during the holidays last year. Now, my younger brother is learning the ropes - extremely quickly at that. He said he wanted to be the number one rower in the team. I told him to wait till I leave next year. Hehe. But next year when I leave, he would probably be the most powerful rower on the team. Which worries me. There's no point in being the best in the team, Stephen. If you want to make it big, if you want to be number one, come to canoeing. If you're going to work so hard just to be pulled down by the weakest member of the team in the race, or be dissapointed when we don't have enough guys to go down for the race. He has the same bright hope as I once had for the team last year. And perhaps, as tianhong had for the team the year before as well. But I understand what tianhong meant last year about wanting to join canoeing. But instead of just talking about it, I actually did it. And that's why our brotherhood is the strongest string in the team. We learn from each other over the years, and we make changes for the better. Perhaps next year stephen may join canoeing when he's ready and sees things as we do. Perhaps his hope for the team will grow stronger, and he will lead them to victory.
